What SIP means
A SIP โ Systematic Investment Plan โ is a way of investing a fixed amount in a mutual fund scheme on a regular schedule, usually every month. The amount is auto-debited from your bank account and units are allotted at the prevailing NAV.
How a SIP works
On each SIP date, the fixed amount buys units of the chosen mutual fund scheme at that day's NAV. When markets are high, you buy fewer units; when markets are low, you buy more. Over time, this averaging smooths the cost of acquisition. Compounding then works in your favour as the holding period grows.
Who should consider a SIP?
- Salaried individuals who want to invest a fixed portion of income every month.
- Long-term goal savers (5 years or more) โ child education, retirement, or wealth building.
- First-time investors who want discipline without timing the market.
